Helping to Deliver Old-world Beauty with Modern-day Living
Client
Garden View House is a protected Victorian red brick home in Dublin 6. Its owners wanted to transform the property into a modern family residence but knew that holding onto its heritage and story was crucial. DMVF Architects and the client appointed Invent Interiors as FF&E consultant to help meet this overall goal.
Challenge
DMVF architects developed a vison that would achieve bright, connected living spaces, linking the lower ground floor to the private rear garden. Working closely with Philippa Buckley from Studio 44, we were tasked with integrating furniture, fixtures, and finishes to help deliver the look-and-feel required. When working within a protected structure, completed work must complement all historic features, and be reversible, while also meeting high standards of craftsmanship.
Extensive co-ordination was required with DMVF architects, Studio 44, the contractor and an extensive list of suppliers to ensure the heritage experience was delivered, adding another level of complexity to the project.
Work
From the start, we collaborated closely with DMVF Architects, interior designers Studio 44, and the client to establish a unified design style. For formal rooms, we specified heritage-appropriate lighting, luxurious fabrics, and bespoke furniture. The open-plan garden-level spaces required light tones, natural textures, and low-profile furniture to enhance flow and views. Where possible, we sourced with sustainability in mind, using FSC-certified woods, low-VOC finishes, and some locally crafted pieces.
Result
The homeowners now have a completed interior that blends period elegance with modern comfort. Formal rooms are finished to ensure their historic detail and proportion is retained, while the lower ground floor now serves as a bright, social hub that is seamlessly connected to the garden.
